| FISHING |
|
With
its 3,400 Km-long coastline, Morocco offers an unbelievable
variety for sea fishing: sea bass, white breams,
sea mullets and gilthead sea breams are very abundant
in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. The clean
waters of the Mediterranean coastline offer the best
of opportunities for underwater fishing. Marina
Smir is one of the best spots in the western Mediterranean
area for the practice of game fishing due to the great
richness of fish life.
Marina Smir, located in the centre
of the beautiful bay comprised between Punta
Almina (Ceuta) and Cabo Negro, is the
ideal starting point for a promising day of inshore
or offshore fishing.
As regards inshore fishing, the best
spots are to be found some three miles from the coast,
in areas abundant in boulders and rocks at a depth of
30 to 60 metres. There are a number of boulders opposite
Castillejos that are excellent for the fishing of serranidae
such as dusky grouper, wreck fish, dentex and pollack,
as well as all sorts of cephalopods. This area is also
abundant in porgies such as red sea breams and red snappers.
.
The amazing richness of the area is
the best-kept secret of Ceuta's game fishermen, regular
visitors or berth owners within Port Marina Smir. They
know that this is a virgin area due to the difficulties
of professional rock fishing and the numerous complications
or loss of material which this activity would entail.
However, the sea-bottom is ideal for waving a rigid
or jointed lure and thus arouse said predators' aggressive
instinct.
Marina Smir is also an excellent
base port for the best offshore fishing such as
red tuna fishing in the strait.
It is important to know that the Moroccan
legislation does not provide for authorisation to practice
boat fishing; therefore it is not necessary to obtain
a permit. At any rate, Morocco's coast guards usually
show an understanding attitude towards game fishermen
using Marina Smir as base port because they are aware
of its importance for the tourist development of the
area.
Marina Smir has successfully hosted
fishing competitions and a new edition is scheduled
for spring next year, to which all lovers of this
sport will be very welcome. Also to be organised within
the framework of the fishing competition are gastronomic
reunions, activities and day-trips to get to know the
many charms of northern Morocco.

quails, turtledoves, woodcocks, snipes, teals, ducks,
partridges, pheasants, song thrushes, doves and even

Ascension to one of mythical Pillars of Hercules,
on the African side of the Strait of Gibraltar, rising
more than 800 metres above the very edge of the sea.
Breathtaking views. Descent around the isles of Leila
or Perejil. Total: Five unforgettable hours of easy
trekking.
 Ascensión
al Jbel Kelti
Setting off from the village of Tamalut, we take
a pleasant walk up the sides of this mythical mountain,
the highest in the region of Tetouan at nearly 2,000
metres, along a path carved into the stone. After walking
through a beautiful large Mediterranean forest, we reach
a 1,600 metre-high hill, which is home to many cedars.
From the top, the north horizon unfolds at our feet
against the backdrop of the sea.
